The Ukrainian band Odyn v kanoe consists of Iryna Shvaidak (vocals), Ustym Pokhmurskyi (guitar), and Ihor Dzikovskyi (percussion). In their music, the artists blend many different genres: while indie serves as the foundation, their songs also feature folk and ethno elements, as well as electronic sounds. Odyn v kanoe’s lyrics address important social, cultural, and personal themes, and the authors frequently use metaphors.

The band Odyn v kanoe began its musical journey in 2010. In fact, the members split from another musical project to create their own. Odyn v kanoe’s first performance venues were various festivals, and the band organized its first major tour of Ukrainian cities six years after its founding. The band has been performing in its current lineup since 2016: it was during that major tour of Ukraine that then-percussionist Olena Davydenko left the band, and Ihor Dzikovskyi took her place.

Their self-titled debut album, Odyn v kanoe, was released in 2016. The album is quite extensive, containing 25 songs, among which “Пообіцяй мені” (Poobitsiai meni), “Небо” (Nebo), and “Човен” (Choven) have become especially beloved by the public; the lyrics to the last of these are based on a text by Ukrainian poet Ivan Franko. The band’s second album bears the same title and consists of 12 tracks, including “Будь мені кимось” (Bud meni kymos), “У мене немає дому” (U mene nemaie domu), and “Ікони” (Ikony). Odyn v kanoe’s discography also features a standout collaboration with Okean Elzy frontman Svyatoslav Vakarchuk – “Місто весни” (Misto vesny).

Odyn v kanoe’s live performances are filled with a special magic. Just like the band’s music itself, the acoustic sound suits their songs especially well, and Iryna Shvaidak’s vocals have a distinct depth. The band actively performs both in Ukraine and across Europe, North America, and Canada. In early 2025, Odyn v kanoe performed in Paris, Gdansk, Berlin, Porto, Madrid, Oslo, Munich, Warsaw, Dublin, Prague, Limassol, Athens, Amsterdam, Brussels, and other cities as part of a major European tour. Live performances remain an important part of Odyn v kanoe’s artistry and allow listeners to fully experience the band’s energy and enjoy their acoustic sound.
