Later Andre Rieu founded his own orchestra, the Maastricht Salon Orchestra, a small ensemble that existed for almost ten years.

In 1987, Andre Rieu founded another musical project - the Johann Strauss Orchestra. The first lineup consisted of 12 musicians, but today the orchestra has more than 50 professional performers. The ensemble performs all over the world, touring in Europe, Australia, Japan, and South America, among other places.
