Böhse Onkelz: Brief History, Music, and Concerts of the German Rock Band
Böhse Onkelz is a rock band that has achieved cult status in its home country and become one of the most successful phenomena on the European heavy music scene. Their signature style is raw hard rock with punk elements, and their lyrics are always honest and uncompromising. Despite a long-standing boycott by the mass media, the musicians have won the hearts of listeners and amassed an army of devoted fans, becoming one of the most influential rock bands in the history of German music.
Band's lineup:
- Kevin Russell - main vocalist;
- Stephan Weidner - bassist, vocalist;
- Peter Schorowsky - drummer, percussionist;
- Matthias Röhr - guitarist.
Development, Hiatus, and Comeback
Having risen from the underground scene of the '80s to cult status, the band faced total censorship and a media boycott. Böhse Onkelz's first album, "Der nette Mann" (1984), was placed on a list of materials deemed harmful to youth and was later confiscated altogether.
In the '90s, the situation changed somewhat: the band's music began to reach the top 10 on the German charts, and by the early 2000s, their popularity had skyrocketed. They topped the charts six times in a row with their albums, and most media partners resumed their collaboration with them.
The band gained an incredible fan base, but in 2005, they announced their breakup. To the delight of their fans, their hiatus ended in 2014, and the musicians released new material, including the albums "Memento" (2016) and "Böhse Onkelz" (2020).
Most Notable Releases
Böhse Onkelz's discography includes both aggressive hard rock songs and poignant ballads, which have earned them millions in record sales and thousands of devoted fans. Among the band's super hits, "Mexico", "Wir ham' noch lange nicht genug", "Leere Worte", and "Auf gute Freunde" have become cult classics.
Full Venues and True Rock
In 2005, Böhse Onkelz played a massive concert for nearly 120,000 people at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz in Lusatia, Brandenburg. This performance was supposed to be the final one of their career, but after returning to music, they also returned to performing. The band's live concerts are loud, energetic, and explosive - all in the finest traditions of hard rock. Böhse Onkelz regularly tours Germany and visits other cities across Europe. In 2026, the band embarked on "Mitten Unter Euch", a major stadium tour that took them to Vienna, Frankfurt am Main, Leipzig, and other cities.
