Who is Hatespeech? Ukraine's Most Radical Music Project

Hatespeech is a Ukrainian band fronted by Dmytro Odnorozhenko. It's hard to pin this project down to a single genre: their music is a blend of punk, electronic, and alternative rock. Hatespeech's lyrics are straightforward, free of euphemisms and complex metaphors, and sincerely express the musicians' views on a particular topic or issue, often of a social nature.

How Hatespeech band came to be

The band formed in early 2022, following the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, as a response to society's need for radical honesty. The early days were not easy: the band was constantly blocked on social media, and some of their tracks were removed from YouTube. But this did not stop Hatespeech or dampen listeners' interest; the band continued to release standout tracks and rapidly gain popularity.

Songs that hit the mark: Hatespeech playlist

The first song that marked Hatespeech's major breakthrough was released in 2022: the track "Я вб'ю всіх богів" quickly went viral and has over 9 million streams on YouTube Music. The list of hits also includes the songs "Добровольці", "птахи летять додому", "це не сильно радикально?", "я помру не своєю смертю", and others.

In 2024, together with the band Krykhitka, Hatespeech released the song "Під весняним дощем" based on a poem by Ukrainian poet Olena Herasyuk. The track became one of the most acclaimed compositions of the year, receiving awards from the Jager Music Awards, Megogo, and Zolota Zorya Lirum. Hatespeech's discography also includes collaborations with Okolytsia, Shmiska, Alice Change, and others.
