From Demo Tapes to the Global Charts
The story of System of a Down began after the breakup of the band Soil, when Serj Tankian and Daron Malakian decided to form a new group. Two years after forming and recording four demo tapes, System of a Down signed a contract with producer Rick Rubin and began work on its first studio album. The self-titled debut marked a major breakthrough and brought the band widespread popularity. Later releases, including "Toxicity" and "Mezmerize", propelled System of a Down to multi-platinum status. In 2006, the group announced a creative hiatus, but returned in 2011. Since then, the musicians have performed periodically and released occasional tracks while retaining their status as legends of the genre.
System of a Down's Biggest Hits: From "Chop Suey!" to "Lonely Day"
Among the biggest hits in System of a Down's discography are "Chop Suey!", "Toxicity", and "Aerials", which brought the band worldwide fame. "B.Y.O.B." holds a special place in the group's repertoire: System of a Down won a Grammy for the song in the Best Hard Rock Performance category. "Hypnotize" and "Lonely Day" also became hugely popular. In 2020, after a long break from releasing new music, the band issued the maxi-single "Protect The Land / Genocidal Humanoidz".
