History of the development of the choir Homin:
The Lviv Municipal Choir Homin was founded in 1988 by singer, conductor, Honored Figure of Arts of Ukraine Oleh Tsyhylyk. Over its long history, the choir has performed not only in Ukraine, but also in the United States, Germany, Poland, Serbia, Spain, the Czech Republic, and other countries. The Homin Choir has also won many competitions, including the Mykola Leontovych National Competition in 1989, as well as the “Просвіта”, “Хортиця-91”, and other festivals. The Homin Choir also contributed to the creation of the Chernobyl series (HBO, 2019), performing the song “Вічна Пам’ять”, which is featured in the last episode.
At the beginning of its existence, Homin was positioned as an amateur men's choir; today, the group also includes female voices. Homin changed its status in 2003, when it became a professional municipal choir, which it remains today. The choir took part in the National Legend of Ukraine award ceremony, where they performed “Цей сон,” a song that had previously made the choir famous throughout the country thanks to social media.
In 2023, the choir underwent organizational changes and became part of the Lviv Organ Hall, and in August Vadym Yatsenko took over as artistic director. With a new choirmaster, the choir represented the country at the International Choral Festival in Sweden.
The Homin's repertoire includes compositions by Volodymyr Ivasyuk, Stepan Giga, Yaroslav Barnych, and other Ukrainian authors, including “Я піду в далекі гори,” “Червона рута,” “Гуцулка Ксеня,” “Гай, зелений гай,” and other Ukrainian hits, rebel and spiritual songs, and carols. The program also includes works by choral composers from Europe and America. Concert programs are regularly updated and continue to amaze listeners with the beauty of Ukrainian songs in particular.
You can attend Homin's concerts not only in Ukraine, they also tour European cities. In 2025, in the fall, Homin will perform for audiences in Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany as part of the European tour. The performances of the Homin Choir are not only an opportunity to enjoy polyphony, but also a combination of academic singing with Ukrainian culture and emotionality.
The Homin Choir actively maintains its pages on social networks, so anyone can watch excerpts from their performances and follow the group's activities.
